FOREIGN JURISDICTION.

THE CHINA ORDER IN COUNCIL, 1925.

At the Court at Buckingham Palace, the 17th day of March, 1925.

PRESENT,

The King's Most Excellent Majesty in Council.

Whereas by Treaty, grant, usage, sufferance, and other lawful means His Majesty the King has jurisdiction within the dominions of the Republic of China:

Now, therefore, His Majesty, by virtue and in exercise of the powers in this behalf by the Foreign Jurisdiction Acts, 1890 and 1913 (53 & 54 Vict. c. 37, and 3 & 4 Geo. V, c. 16), or otherwise in His Majesty vested, is pleased by and with the advice of His Privy Council to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:--- PART 1.-PRELIMINARY AND GENERAL.

2. The limits of this Order are the dominions of the Republic of China, including the territorial waters of those dominions; but, except as provided in this Order, the said limits do not in- clude places within the limits of the China (Kashgar) Order in Council, 1920 (S.R. & O., 1920, No. 568).

Provided that this Order shall not apply within the territory leased to His Majesty by China under the Convention of July 1st, 1898, so long as the lease of the said territory remains in effect.

3. In the construction of this Order the following words and expressions have the meanings hereby assigned to them, unless there be something in the subject or context repugnant thereto, that is to say :-

Administration " means letters of administration, in- cluding the same with will annexed or granted for special or limited purposes or limited in duration.
